While folks languished in an autumn warm spell, St. Vincent de Paul of Lane County was busy getting ready for less friendly conditions with a series of openings and re-openings. The Myrtlewood's 35 new units are nearly full; it's a new day at Saginaw Mobile Home Park, and up to 20 families are being fed and sheltered each night at the First Place Annex, a permanent home for Night Shelter. From Rough Ground A Stately Myrtlewood

Set against matching gray clouds, the stately Myrtlewood building loomed large over an appreciative crowd of affordable-housing advocates and soon-to-be tenants who gathered Oct. 9 to celebrate its completion. Developed by St. Vincent de Paul in partnership with the Church of the Brethren, the Myrtlewood is located near 10th and Main in Springfield and adds to that neighborhood 35 affordable units in an attractive, energy-efficient building.

First Place Annex Opens To Grateful Families

Following a neighborhood ice-cream social on Sept. 29 and grand opening festivities the morning of Oct. 1, the first occupants of the First Place Family Center Annex brought in items needed for the inaugural overnight stay. “The Annex,” as it’s called, is a permanent home for the Interfaith Night Shelter program that has rotated families among host sites for more than a quarter century.
