SVdP golf tourney: Drive to keep families housed
When St. Vincent de Paul Society of Lane County (SVdP) expanded services to include affordable housing in the 1990s, it was clear that getting housed was not the end of the journey for our clients. So, we established a robust Resident Services program to support our residents on their path to permanent housing and stability but securing the funding the sustain it year-round proved to be a challenge.
Enter Bill Barr, a former banker and an employee of SVdP Property Management at the time. Motivated to generate ongoing financial support that could help provide ongoing stability for the children and families in SVdP affordable housing, Barr organized the first SVdP Golf Tournament fundraiser and ran it for 16 consecutive years until his unexpected death in December 2015. The tournament lived on in his name until the COVID-19 pandemic put a pause it and all other events.
Now, SVdP is pleased to announce the 2024 return of the Bill Barr Memorial Golf Classic on Friday, Sept. 20, at Emerald Valley Golf Club in Creswell. Proceeds will continue to support SVdP’s Resident Services program, where the goal is to keep people housed.

The fee of $150 per person will include golf, use of a golf cart (shared per foursome), continental breakfast, and lunch. Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. with a start time of 9 a.m. Lunch, presentations, and announcement of winners will conclude by 3 p.m. On the day of the tournament, add-ons will include purchases of mulligans and contests like longest drive, closest to pin, or chip shot.
Participants can also enter the raffle for a great golf-lover’s prize and bid on a variety of appealing packages in a silent auction — whether want to have a nice day off, go on a date night, play some (more) golf, or improve your health and well-being.
