EUGENE — St. Vincent de Paul Society of Lane County (SVdP), the area’s largest human service provider, and long-time affordable housing developer, has announced a date and location for its annual fundraiser, The Bill Barr Memorial Golf Classic. The classic, which is the first of two major fundraisers for the nonprofit in 2025, will take place on June 20 at the Emerald Valley Golf Club in Creswell. The event will feature a full 18-hole classic with prizes for mini events such as closest to the pin & longest drive. Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.

How does it help?

The Bill Barr Memorial Golf Classic raises money for St. Vincent de Paul’s Resident Services program, which provides built-in support for tenants in St. Vincent de Paul’s affordable housing properties. The program helps families flourish through comprehensive services that range from daily one-one-one household support to monthly community events. Resident Services supports residents in gaining skills, building community and setting goals to maintain housing and social stability.

“SVDP and Resident Services has changed my life for the better. They have given me what I need and connected me to the people I need to help me have the quality of life I want.”-Resident.

Why a golf tournament?

The event is named in honor of Bill Barr, a former banker and St. Vincent de Paul Property Management employee. Barr championed the very first St. Vincent de Paul Golf Tournament, to raise critical funding that supports financial stability for children and families in SVdP’s affordable housing. Bill ran the tournament for 16 consecutive years until his death in 2015. St. Vincent de Paul has continued the event to keep Bill’s vision for stable families in Lane County alive.

How do I get involved?

SVdP is currently seeking local businesses for sponsorship opportunities for the event, including a presenting sponsor and breakfast, lunch, mini game and hole sponsors. Event sponsors receive special perks in addition to free entry into the classic.
