“An above-Barr reunion” describes the 20th anniversary Bill Barr Golf Classic that brought old friends and new to a beloved venue for golf and to help families in SVdP housing.
Thirty-two foursomes took part in morning or afternoon flights, taking time between to share a meal and memories of St. Vinnie’s greatest champion for children.
The intrepid setup committee worked on the eve of the tournament, dodging an electrical storm that prompted the golf pro to call all parties off the course.
Tournament day brought perfect weather and great relief. But in the quiet moments when his friends were scattered in 18 directions, the very breeze seemed to carry the infectious laugh of Bill Barr.
Everybody who participated is a winner. Here are a select few from the tournament:
1st Place: Environment Control Team, mustered by co-owner Ruben Garcia, also of the SVdP Board of Directors.
2nd Place: Our friends from Enterprise Community Investment, a valued partner in affordable housing.
3rd Place: The Frank Elsener Team. Thank you for your years of participation!
Longest Drive, Men: Zeke Sexton
Longest Drive, Women: Marsha Woloszyn
Closest to the Pin: Jayson Davis
The SVdP staff was delighted to present the 2019 “Raising the Barr” award to Meili Construction, a stalwart business partner, and sponsor and participant since the tournament’s inception.
Preliminary indications are that the 2019 Golf Classic was at least as successful as prior events. That translates to much needed programs and resources for the families in SVdP’s 1,400-plus units of affordable housing, and as Bill would remind everyone, especially “FORE the kids!”
