Cars For A Cause Program
SVDP Partners With Veterans of Foreign Wars for New Car Donation Program
We are partnering with Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 7143 based in Esparto, Calif. for a new initiative supporting California veterans.
Starting Jan. 5, 2026, the two organizations are launching the Cars for a Cause program to accept vehicle donations from area residents who will receive a tax-deductible receipt in exchange. Cars for a Cause is an offshoot of a similar program the nonprofit operates in Oregon, where donated vehicles are resold at a SVdP used-car lot. The proceeds from vehicle sales are directed back into local human-service programs that SVdP operates, including those in its Veteran Services department, along with day-access shelters for unhoused families, emergency weather shelters, and more.
SVdP is accepting used vehicles in good working condition at their Stockton-based DR3 recycling facility, where they also recycle used mattresses. Staff will be able to facilitate the paperwork and provide each donor with a tax receipt for the donated vehicle. All donated vehicles will then be shipped north to SVdP’s used-car lot, with proceeds from sales benefitting Californian veterans through VFW Post 7143 initiatives.
