Ernest is aptly named. Seemingly serious and matter-of-fact, he gets a little teary-eyed when asked about his future. The recent past was problematic enough for him, his mom, and two sisters, to the extent they lost their housing and sought services at First Place Family Center.

Waiting It Out at the Annex

Cass, her partner Chris, and their son Skyler are looking for their niche. The quest has taken them from Eugene to Vegas, and back to Eugene again, leaving a trail of housing situations that didn’t work out. Now they are sheltering at the First Place Family Center Annex and taking the steps necessary to acquire permanent housing.

bearded manMost folks take a warm shower for granted. Not so, the unhoused adults sheltering in St. Vincent de Paul’s facilities on Hwy 99N and at the Lane County Fairgrounds. Showers are available to more than 350 people, but during specific hours and in a socially distant queue.
