Great Reasons To Do Truffle Shuffle!

Date: Thursday, February 7 2019

Here's Why Truffle Shuffle Is Important:

St. Vincent de Paul Society of Lane County (SVdP) has been a community leader in serving homeless veterans since 2006. We have developed a continuum of programs, services, and living options to help veterans become stably housed. Programs include:

Supportive Services for Veterans Families (SSVF) helps veterans who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness.

Vet LIFT helps homeless veterans who are diagnosed with substance abuse and mental health issues.

Veterans in Progress (VIP) provides job assessment, paid work experience, job search assistance, career planning, and certifications.

All SVdP veterans’ programs include essential case management to provide dignity to those who served our country. We help them achieve long-term housing stability. Here is one of many success stories:

John is a homeless veteran who spent many years of his life living with others, while taking care of them as a care-provider. At his last placement, he was evicted with very little notice. Unable to come up money for housing, John and his partner had to live in their car. At age 61, John struggled to find sufficient employment.

With the assistance of SSVF, John has secured stable housing. He also recently starting working in SVdP’s thrift store in Albany. “This is so exciting, and I know this will be a great fit. With limited expenses, I’m finally in a place where I can support my household,” said John.

Since 2012, SVdP has enrolled 2,100 veterans including 478 chronically homeless individuals; more than 1,110 graduated the program with permanent housing.
