Appliance and Propane Recycling

In Oregon, major appliances, propane tanks, and fire extinguishers cannot be landfilled. Appliance repair has been an integral part of St. Vincent de Paul’s mission since 1955. Appliances (including refrigerators, freezers, ranges, washers, and dryers) that need simple repairs are refurbished,  painted and sold in our retail thrift stores. Each appliance carries a 90-day warranty.

Appliances that cannot be repaired are recycled.  Each machine is stripped of components such as copper, tin, steel, plastic, motors and compressors.  The oil is removed in an environmentally-responsible matter.  CFC’s (ozone-depleted gases) are also removed and cleaned for resale.

St. Vincent de Paul is the largest reclaimer and recycler of ozone-depleting CFC gases on the West Coast and the only program certified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

To purchase an appliance, visit one of our 14 retail thrift stores. For warranty information, contact St. Vincent de Paul at (541) 687-5820.
