Like so many people in our community, Brent and Trista were hit hard by job losses during the Great Recession. An unexpected illness complicated things, and the families found themselves in an unthinkable position - living in their car with their 2-year-old son, Draven.
This situation isn't unique. It isn't even that rare. Every year over 500 families seek support services at the First Place Family Center, which helps people in transition due to homelessness, job loss, health issues, or other critical problems. Services help families meet their immediate needs such as showers, food, and a kitchen. We also strive to help people move toward self-sufficiency by providing case management, phones and computers to help with job searches, and participation in the Interfaith Night Shelter or Overnight Parking Program.
One of the biggest sources of support for this program is Dinner Theatre, which will take place on Wednesday, November 7 at the Eugene Hilton and Conference Center. This is a fun, unusual event: great dinner, a brief oral auction, and 45 minutes of entertainment featuring talented local performers such as Musical Feet and the band Hole in the Wall. We hope you can join us and support this vital service for some of Lane County's most vulnerable citizens. Tickets are $75 per person. Business sponsorships are also available. For more information, visit the Dinner Theatre page of our website, download the invitation, or call (541) 743-7121.
